Hey everyone! This is a really simple (and satisfying) mini tutorial if you’re looking for a handy art project! The great thing about this ‘tape trick’ is that it looks different everytime. There are so many things you can do to experiment with it. So here’s a little try at it:
I listed all the tools I use below along with a pretty cool art discount for you! Keep reading….
The ‘Tape Trick’ + A Cool Watercolor Discount For You!
First, take a piece of watercolor paper and some tape. I used washi tape (because honestly I’ve been hoarding it for so long that if I didn’t use it, it would get old and non sticky anyway haha) but you can use any tape that’s not too sticky and won’t tear the page. Using watercolor paper helps as opposed to sticking tape on thinner paper- hot press watercolor paper is less likely to tear when peeling it off, as opposed to regular paper which has more texture.
Make sure that you tape everything everything down. We don’t want the watercolor leaking through the tape (it’s happened to me before, haha). For each triangle section, I used more than one color- blending it here and there. If you notice, I used shades of red, pink, orange, gold, in the top half and then shades of blue, purple at the bottom. Just for your reference, haha.
After playing around with colors, it’s time to let it dry. It dries fairly quickly, unless you’ve loaded sections with water. Not recommended, obviously 😀 Let’s take a moment to look at how Prima paints look on paper- they dry with an organic feel to them. I really love the dried bleed effect. Not to mention, they’re highly pigmented so the colors are all really nice and bright.
Time to peel the tape away. If you’re (crazy) careful, you can peel it neatly and use it elsewhere. I just ripped it off and here’s what it looks like: (I know, it’s painful to see.)
We’re not done yet! Now, if you notice, I used a wider washi tape along with some thinner strips. The wider strips are perfect for..lettering, maybe? Let’s write something down.
I know the stuff I wrote is cliche and all that, but give a girl a break. I hadn’t planned what to write while I was recording the video (as usual) so I literally wrote the first thing that popped in my mind. I guess I was going for something inspiring? Lol. Don’t forget to sign your name somewhere too 🙂
If you want to see the process of how I made it, here it is:
The brush pen I used is by Artnfly: buy it here.
See the watercolours peeking out from behind the pic? You can buy these (and more products!) from myprimaplace.com . And I’ve got a tiny bonus for you: use the code SURELYSIMPLE15% to get 15% off your order! They have a lot of watercolor options especially, so take a look!
Another look at all the watercolor palettes, art project and pens…because, I know it’s funny, but looking at art supplies and random art I make is comforting haha. To me, atleast.
Here are all the tools:
Oh, and I totally forgot- I took some close ups of the paint so you could get a better look (if you’re planning to invest in some prima watercolours that I used in this project!) Here you go:
