I’m starting a new series called Restyle it! And I’m not starting this to be..err stylish. It’s totally out of necessity. Over the years, my house has accumulated a lot of stuff. I have scores of handbags, pen holders, boxes, notebooks, tons of craft and art material, clothes (the obvious one in the list) and right now, in the middle of a de-cluttering spree, I realise I can do so much with it. So many things unused, just lying around haphazardly . Ugh. I’m planning to restyle everything I can use, and donate the rest. The stuff which I’m going to reinvent..is all going to be here. And I hope it’ll maybe give you your own ideas on reusing your stuff. It’s the consumerist era. And I’m probably not the only one guilty of having too much stuff, disorganised everywhere round the house. Oh well. That’s all going to change.
Starting with this…Restyle it! DIY Gemstone Shirt
I dug out this not so very old shirt I bought a few months back. I never really wore it much because it’s a little bit too dull. Normally I like plain, one-colour shirts, but this one..I just don’t know. So I decided to jazz it up a bit with some fake gemstones.
I got a needle and some thread, gemstones of different sizes and colours, scissors and my t-shirt on the work table.
I planned roughly how I was going to stitch the gemstones on. To do this, I just used a sheet of paper and drew a collar like curve. Placing the gemstones on it, I settled on a design I liked.
Now came the stitching part! I started with the central orange gemstone (the one in a circle shape) and built my way around it, adding the green tear/petal shapes and then the smaller orange, pink and transparent pieces.
It’s really subtle, but I like the extra shimmer added to the t-shirt. I’m totally going to wear it now! What do you think about adding some gems to your shirts? Tell me in the comments below..would love to hear from you!
If you make something similar (inspired by this), please tag your work with #mysurelysimple ..would love to see it! xo, Aaria
