February Lettering Challenge Day 1 | I Love Lettering

Hey everyone. On instagram, for February, I’ve started fill in lettering prompts for you to letter and fill in whatever answer you like! (if you haven’t seen it, it’s at the end of the post). So, anyways, I thought I’d write a little bit about my thoughts and process for every prompt I do, here as well! So here goes-

The first prompt for Feb is I LOVE ________

I decided to write ‘I love lettering’ just because, I do. I’m holding a lettering challenge, after all. Midway while writing it, there was quite a bit of the page left ( yes, because I am spontaneous and never plan layouts- need to work on that!) so I just wrote some other words on a whim. It turned out okay.  In fact, I was going to write: ..it evokes the writer and artist in me, but I guess I got distracted and I wrote..in the process instead. It didn’t sound right: I love lettering, because it evokes the writer and artist in the process’- so I added ‘in me’ right under ‘writer and artist’. Whew! Saved. This always happens when I don’t plan beforehand what to write- especially with longer sentences.

Then of course, I added some flowers because why not? I’m kinda addicted to painting watercolor blooms because, not only do I practice, I actually feel that I’m getting the hang of it everytime I venture to draw blobby (but shapely) roses and miniscule leafy embellishments. So it motivates me to keep on painting them.

I tried a splatter effect ( I love splatters!) but this time, it didn’t work out the way it should. Maybe it was the way I was flicking the brush- ahh. Or maybe because I flicked ink instead of paint. It should still work, right? Still, I had fun.

Happy February! For our first post the prompt was “I love …..” and of course the first thing I think about is food. Haha! I do love chocolate. Dark chocolate to be exact so that’s what I chose to letter today. I just added a few sweets to add to the pic.
