Polaroids. Probably one of the trendiest things right now. But, I can honestly say, though- that I liked them way, way back before when they weren’t given so much importance. In fact, let me tell you a true little story: when I was going to turn ten years, I begged and begged to get a polaroid camera for my birthday. And I did! I was so happy and it was fun just clicking away and seeing the result. Then, while moving across continents, somehow the camera got lost. 🙁
Last week, I found some old (taken 11 years ago!) snaps I had taken, tucked in some albums- and got inspired to create a little DIY which is all about..polaroids!
You can use these polaroids as coasters or wall decor. Read on to get the deets:
To make these DIY polaroid coasters and wall decor, you need:
white foam sheet// heavy cardstock// pictures (I used magazines- but you can always use photos, or print out specific ones)// scissors// mod podge (or homemade mod podge! details below!) // glue // a pencil to mark // a sponge or a brush to apply glue // clothespins and string for wall hanging
1// On the foam and the cardstock, cut out 6 rectangles. I traced an old polaroid snap, but if you don’t have one on you, it’s alright. Just make the rectangles 4×5′ for the old rectangle classic shape.
2// Stick the foam on the cardstock to make your polaroid base.
3// Now, choose pictures from magazines and trim them to the inner photo size. I used a ruler to measure them: and the dimensions I used were 8cm x 8.2 cm.
4// Glue the pictures in place. Wait for them to dry a bit.
4// Varnish them using a sponge/brush with mod mode or homemade mod podge!
HOMEMADE MOD PODGE- since I didn’t have mod podge at home today, I thought I’d just make some on my own. It’s really simple- just take 1 cup of glue and mix 1/3 cup of water- voila!
Now, basically you’re all set to use ’em as coasters-
As coasters, if you want to make these more durable, I suggest you laminate them for an added touch.
And you can also switch things up in your wall decoration by attaching the polaroids with clothespins on string to make a pretty polaroid wall hanging!
These will also be such a pretty gift for someone with a dorm room! If you have any friends/siblings/ anyone you know moving to their very own room, giving them a personalized set of polaroids makes for such an authentic gift!
I think I may have just fallen in love with polaroids again! Maybe this Christmas, I think I know what I’m going to wish for! xo, Aaria
