One more volume for Disney! On Instagram, I host a daily challenge which combines art and lettering (@SurelySimpleChallenge.) In March, there was a Disney theme and here are two more artists who worked on adding some Disney to their daily routine. Meet Agnes and Myda for this circle of artists: vol. 4 – A month of Disney!
Well, I’ve always loved art since I can remember. I took an art class in junior high and had fun but didn’t really take it seriously. I would sketch faces in junior and high school and hand letter names or whatever they wanted on my friend’s book covers (remember those brown paper bag book covers?!) I enjoyed doing this for my friends.
For some reason I never even thought of going to college for arts. I wish I had. Everything I’ve learned up to this point has just been from classes here and there and youtube and the internet.
Back in November I somehow took a stronger interest in lettering via Instagram posts from people on the search page. I truly cannot remember how I came across #surelysimplelettering or Aaria’s Instagram but I know I made a few friends through it. I started lettering with the Tombows I already had that I was using for my art journey. I immediately got addicted and have been purchasing different markers and pens along the way. I figured I should do Aaria’s challenge so I can start growing and improving my hand lettering and also to connect with others along the way.
I feel great when I look back and see my growth with my lettering journey and doing Aaria’s challenges. I can see the improvement for sure. I say anyone can do this with practice for sure! I don’t do them every day but when I do get a chance to participate in the challenge it feels good! I feel the community is amazing. So much support and encouragement. That is one of the things that attracted me to Aaria’s challenges is her interaction with her followers. She is amazing yet she doesn’t ignore you and she encourages you and helps you. Her positive comments and likes are refreshing.
I would love to set up my Etsy store and sell prints along with art. I wish to continue growing in my lettering journey and plan to continue doing challenges. I would love to help others and teach them what I’ve learned so far and I think I will be focusing on doing How To videos more on my Instagram. I also plan on going to meet ups to meet fellow letterers and grow friendships with more people like myself who want to help others and just have fun while creating!
