Hello! I am starting a series of essays, which you will see here on Surely Simple- in the Positive Living Column. I think it’s extremely important to focus on positivity. Today I’m talking about a topic which is of the most prime importance. Be your own best friend.
Now, you may be wondering, why is this even important? Well, I’m here to tell you that being your own best friend is crucial to your happiness and your success. If you can’t be happy with yourself, if you are secretly exasperated with your life and the direction it’s heading- well, then stop thinking this way!
Be your own best friend, instead.
Accept. You know who you are. You know your strengths, and your weaknesses. And yet, they do not define you. What defines you is the strength and energy you possess. Even if there was everything good in the past (or everything not quite as good), it doesn’t matter! What matters is..today. What you have is today.
I used to be a perfectionist, and this habit of mine was not a nice one. I used to always be comparing myself to people, and I never was happy with my successes either. It was horrible. Only recently, I’ve stopped this, and I’m proud to say- I’m proud of who I am. Everyone has their own journey, their own obstacles. You’ll get nowhere by comparing yourself to anyone- because at the end of the day, all you have is you. And only what you do, counts. So be proud of who you are! You deserve it.
The main problem that everything stems from- is a lack of gratitude. Be grateful, and feel your world and perspective change. Gratitude is the key to success. It gives you focus and presence of mind. Where there’s gratitude, you’ll find independence and love. There’s something good in every day, every moment. Be grateful.
When you’ve decided to love yourself, and be your own best friend, then all you need along with you is a positive approach! Guard yourself. Kick out anything that’s not positive in your life- horrible ‘friends’, laziness, procrastination, and so many other bad habits. When you think it will all work out for the best, it will. Be positive in your approach and have faith in positivity. It’s so powerful, you just have to believe in it.
Be you. It can’t get simpler than that, can it? Don’t waste your time complaining about what you don’t possess right now. Make the most of what you have. Use your strengths and the tools you have available- and be true to what you believe, who you are. Do what you love and love what you do.
