It is a smartpad especially created for turning your handwritten notes and doodles into a digital file which automatically gets saved in your device (phone/ tablet etc) for memory keeping! All you have to do is download the Inkspace App, connect the Bamboo Slate to your smart phone or tablet via Bluetooth and press the (only) button on the smartpad to start the magic. Then, you can write and draw anything you like with the smart pen provided. With a second click of the button, watch your work transform into a digital file which you can edit, store, share and access anytime!

Since today is Valentine’s Day, I decided to demonstrate an easy doodle that you can create for this occasion. Holidays like this always give people a chance to add a handmade element to gifts, and having a Bamboo Slate makes the job a lot easier!

❤️Comment yes if you want this! 🎉 This is NOT a normal pen!! It has special ink and when used over the Bamboo Slate – it *magically* transfers your doodles/ handwriting into digital versions on your smartphone (iOS and android) / tablet with a mere click of a button! Video review of the Bamboo Slate (watch FULL thing!): you can watch your drawing process LIVE (it appears on screen as you draw – as seen in this video here!) and you can also watch it REPLAY later with the 'split' function! Also, turn up the volume! 🎊 there's a small audio element to this video, haha! ☺️ • If you need some more explanation on the Bamboo Slate, read my long article all about it here on the blog and find out where you can get one yourself! : http://surelysimple.com/bamboo-slate-review-valentines-day-instagram-giveaway/ LINK IN BIO 💓 • The Bamboo Slate is ideal for people who like to : 💓 draw 💓 write notes and lists 💓 digitize their line art 💓 try new gadgets ! 💓 use smartpads 📝 . 💓 doodle and write (me!) 💓 like digital communication, organization and storage. 💓keep their notes in one handy space (AKA- the InkSpace App) 💓 people who like to work smarter, not harder …. Still confused on how it works and what to expect? Well, it’s simpler than you think. Here’s a step by step breakdown:

1 / When you open your package, you’ll find these components:

2/ Charge the Bamboo Slate with the USB cable provided.

It takes 2 hours approximately. When you connect it for charging you’ll see that the button glows orange. When the light is off, it’s fully charged.

3/ Download the InkSpace App on your smartphone or tablet and sign up for a free ID.

4/ Open the InkSpace App.

You’ll be asked to hold the button on the Bamboo Slate for about 6 seconds- for it to recognize the device. Turn on the Bluetooth on your phone/ tablet. Now both the app and the slate should be synced! You can choose the direction of the Bamboo Slate (vertical/horizontal/ left/right) and these settings can be changed. Time for some fun!

5/ The notepad is fixed on the Slate (through a slit to add the last page).

You can use any notepad on this! No special paper required! So don’t worry if you finish the book provided by bamboo 😉

6/ Press the button on the Slate and start drawing/writing with the smart pen.

It’s a ballpoint pen (twist it around to reveal the tip) filled with special ink that recognizes the markings you make on the paper (within the lines around the surface of the slate). It has 1024 pressure levels and a nice grip- along with a matte finish. It also has a clip that you can attach to the slate. Since the ink is necessary to make the transfer happen, you’ll find an extra cartridge in the box along with a little circular tool to replace cartridges. You can buy these pen cartridges separately too after you finish the ink in the two given here.

7/ You can directly draw/write on the paper with the smart pen OR you can sketch out a design prior to inking it with pencil.

Please note that if you want to add color to your illustration, you require the Bamboo Paper App. If you’re like me and enjoys sticking to black and white for initial sketches and layouts (to add color later on a computer program), you’ll enjoy the minimal approach!

8/ After you’re done drawing/writing, press the button again and you should see a pop up on the InkSpace app (either on phone/tablet) saying ‘downloading..’

It’ll take 1-2 seconds for it to be imported on the app. You can see your creations in the Library within the app!

9/ Some more bonuses!

If you click on a photo in the InkSpace library, you’ll be taken to a full screen view. On the top right corner, you should see an ‘Edit’ button. When you press that, you get 2 options- Draw and Split.

The Draw option enables you to directly draw/erase, select areas (and an undo button). This is a simple set of options which can be helpful for minor tweaks.

The Split option is so fun! You can watch the process of your work and backtrack. If you wanted a particular part of your drawing (say, before you added more), you can go back and save that with this option. And it’s fun to watch the playback by scrolling through it. Nice!

Another good one: the LIVE Function! You can watch yourself as you draw and write! There’s a live option and after clicking it, you’ll see this to activate it:

I made this Valentine’s Day banner doodle using the live function 🙂

10/ Time to export the image!

On the bottom left corner, you should see an arrow sign. Press it to see these option- export as JPG, PNG, PDF and WILL. When you export as a PNG, it doesn’t have a background. Also, I tried exporting a tiny doodle I made (about 2 cms) and when I enlarged it on the computer, it was good quality. The export function is smooth and works well. You can save it on your device, mail it etc.

11/ What I really like about this is the fact that you can draw anywhere on the page (as long as it’s within the lines of the Slate) and it recognizes it easily! Even on top of an existing scribble.

As you can see, each time you press the button, it recognizes the fresh ink you add (not any old marks on the page). As you can see on this page where I drew on top of my work, it didn’t affect the doodle at all. (Experimenting, haha!) I like to doodle spontaneously as well as pencil it in and then ink. Works well for both.

A good question! In my opinion, people who do the following can definitely enjoy and find value in using the Bamboo Slate:

people who like to draw

people who take notes

people who like to digitize their drawings

people who work

people who study

people who constantly lose their notes and spend a lot of time rewriting them

people who like to (or are forced to) make lists

people who like to write

people who like gadgets

people who like to doodle and draw and write (sketch notes, anyone?)

people who like to make mind maps and brainstorm a lot

people who hate writing and drawing (and are enticed by the digital efficiency of this device!)

…Most people, in fact. I think you’ll like this one!

Take a look again at this video (I enjoyed making it! :D)
